| Pikes Peak Miners History |
| |
Established in 1993, the Pikes Peak Miners Midget Hockey Club has served as a stepping stone for elite players with aspirations to pursue hockey at the junior level and beyond. Built on the vision of expanding hockey in the western United States, the midget program began as a spin-off and feeder team for the Junior A Pikes Peak Miners of the old Frontier Hockey League. In 1997, the Miners began competing at the Tier I level. With the opportunity to compete at elite national and international tournaments, the Pikes Peak Miners have experienced success as a team, and more importantly, recent players have achieved success in junior hockey, collegiate hockey and the NHL.

In 2000-2001, the Miners became the first Tier I Midget team in the Front Range to win a national tournament bid. This 40 win season marked the emergence of Pikes Peak as a national contender. In 2001-2002 the Miners returned to the national tournament as Rocky Mountain Regional Champions making it to the quarterfinals. Team success with its numerous state titles and its national championship appearances has helped to foster the foundation for individual success – moving many players to junior and collegiate hockey by providing a national state. This is reinforced by former players who have moved on to experience great success.

Former Miner David Hale is a pillar and tribute to the foundation of success that the Miners organization has provided. He is currently enjoying a career with the storied New Jersey Devils (NHL). David exemplifies the dream that every player has growing up in Colorado Springs. Former Miners Scott Polaski and Luke Fulghum, who returned to Colorado for college after stellar junior careers in the USHL, are also pillars of success. Now playing for Colorado College and Denver University respectively, they symbolize the success that is synonymous with Pikes Peak Miner hockey.

A decade of hockey has created a decade of tradition. This tradition, rich with success, will continue to shape and define the Colorado Springs Tier I Midget hockey team known as the Pikes Peak Miners.
